Match Report

                                    CANTERBURY 3RD 17 MAIDSTONE 2ND 20

Canterbury fell to their third defeat on the bounce in this Premier 2 East game but were unlucky to narrowly lose to a side that had inflicted heavy defeats on their previous two opponents.  It was Maidstone’s more experienced pack that tilted the scales after the city side had battled to a seven point led in the second half.  Two late tries, one a pushover, wrestled the game away from Canterbury.  In a tight first half Jack Waite held off a posse of defenders to score the city men’s try, but they found themselves five points behind at the break, with the visitors claiming two unconverted touchdowns.  After the break Jamie Evans brought Canterbury level before Waite’s second try and Scott Payne’s conversion took them into a 17-10 lead.  But Maidstone’s big men applied the pressure and snatched the win.
