Match Report

                                  CANTERBURY 3RD 15 GRAVESEND 3RD 12

Canterbury made it six on the bounce with this narrow win.. They started poorly against a strong, Gravesend outfit and the visitors pack registered an early try from a pushover at a scrum . The city side responded smartly though, with quick hands and ambitious attacking play eventually freeing Simon Jaynes who swerved around several players to score in the left corner. The visitors, however, led at half time through a second try, this time converted.
After the break Canterbury decided their best bet to close the gap was to up the tempo and play to their strengths in the wide channels. Gravesend's defence struggled to cope with the speed of the home side's ball and the strength of their carrying, and before long replacement Giles Guest made pressure pay with a try under the Canterbury struggling to convert breaks and attacking chances into points but, with less than ten minutes to go, a penalty was won and Scott Payne kept his cool to kick the winning points
